We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!
Chorus
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding,
Oh, bring us some figgy pudding,
And bring it right here!
Chorus
We won't go until we get some,
We won't go until we get some,
We won't go until we get some,
So bring it right here!
Chorus
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year!
About We Wish You a Merry Christmas
We Wish You a Merry Christmas is a traditional English carol from the West Country. It comes from the old custom of carol singers going from door to door and expecting food or drink, such as figgy pudding, in return for their songs.
The version sung today owes much to an arrangement made in 1935 by Arthur Warrell, a Bristol musician, which helped it spread to schools and choirs across the country.
We Wish You a Merry Christmas is traditional and out of copyright, so the words are free to print and sing at school, at church or at home. For printable sheets, download our free carols and activities pack (PDF).
